What is Cyclospora?
Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that causes gastrointestinal illness. Infection is typically linked to consuming contaminated food or water, particularly fresh produce.
Common symptoms include:
✅ Watery diarrhea
✅ Loss of appetite
✅ Weight loss
✅ Nausea and fatigue
✅ Bloating and abdominal discomfort
Symptoms generally begin about one week after exposure and can last several weeks if left untreated
How can you protect yourself?
🥗 Thoroughly wash fresh fruits and vegetables under running water before eating.
🧼 Follow safe food handling practices.
💧 Stay hydrated if experiencing diarrhea.
🏥 Contact your healthcare provider if you develop prolonged or severe watery diarrhea, especially during the summer months. [cdc.gov]
