
LTC Consultant Pharmacist AS Training Program: Session V: Microbiology 101 for the Consultant Pharmacist

Objectives: 1. Explain how organisms are identified in the microbiology laboratory using traditional, non-culture based, and rapid methods of identification. 2. Define methods for susceptibility testing and interpretation of susceptibility results. 3. Recognize resistance mechanisms of concern in long-term care, primarily extended-spectrum Beta Lactamase production and carbapenem resistance.
